Altabel Group - overview of Scandinavian Software Market

At the beginning of December Altabel Group had another opportunity to get closer to Scandinavian Software Market. Our company representatives made one more tour round Scandinavian IT companies. Our basic objectives were to introduce our services and expertise to the companies in this region, to get general overview and specific trends of the software development process in Scandinavia, based on personal communication with this region best representatives.

As a result of numerous meetings with IT companies' representatives in Sweden and in Norway, we could clearly see the main strengths and weaknesses of this region software market.

IT landscape of Sweden is primarily dominated by the software market. However, although there are a number of firms that are leading in market share as producers of business systems, regardless if these systems are small, medium or large; they are simply not very profitable. Although Swedish business software is a large and growing segment, it is still can not be compared with its foreign competitors. There have also been problems with Swedish companies that produce consumer software, simply because the Swedes have a reputation for business software and are not known in the consumer marketplace. However, there is still demand for niche software, "Swedish companies have built up a world leading position in the segments of entertainment, e.g. games and gambling software; aerospace industry software support; production critical software; and not least IT security software with biometrics. Strong segments are also software for wireless applications; intelligent home communications; applications for the health; process control, automative (i.e.telematics); and forestry sectors."

The Norwegian market is expected to grow at a steady pace. Most market segments will enjoy increasing revenues, and Norway is expected to see higher growth rates than most other European markets. Outsourcing, systems integration and application management are strong segments in the service market and CRM and other enterprise software are again generating high revenues in the integration market after a slow period. This growth period is expected to last at least until 2009. Hardware support and application development have been a lot less successful than its software counterpart.

Thus, we may conclude that despite seeming well-being of the Scandinavian IT market, Altabel Group, taking into account its favorable location in Europe, may be a very attractive and reliable partner in the domain of software development, as we may offer lower cost level, efficiency, highly qualified service delivery in the shortest terms and within sensible budget, access to the best resources of our partners.
